Uploading a Private Video to Youtube

Youtube allows its users to upload public and private videos. Public videos can be found by others in YouTube’s search results and private videos can only be viewed by the uploader and the users that he or she selects.

To upload a video to YouTube with private settings, follow the following instructions.

1. Sign into YouTube
2. Go to youtube.com/upload
3. Before selecting your file to upload, click the dropdown menu next to the word “Privacy” and select private. See image below.

Instagram Video Tutorial

As many of you already know, Instagram added a videos feature recently which allows users to upload videos to their account instead of just the usual static pictures. My guess is this new feature was added in a direct response to Vine’s success, but either way, it’s made Instagram a lot more diverse and fun.

I found this Instagram Video tutorial on Mashable in case you’re interested in adding video to your Instagram account. Check it out.

How to Block Someone on Pinterest

There might come a time in your Pinterest journey when you’ll want to block another pinner for one reason or another.  When you block a pinner, the two of you cannot follow each other or interact with each other’s pins.

To block a pinner, follow these instructions:

1. Log on to Pinterest

2. Go to the specific pinner’s page.

3. On the top portion of their page, you’ll see a rectangle with their name and in the lower right corner of that rectangle, you’ll see a flag.

4. Click that flag or hover over it and at the bottom, you’ll see the option to block them.  Click that and they will be blocked.

Adding a Pinterest Share Button to your Tumblr Blog

If you want to make it easy for your Tumblr followers to pin images from your blog on to Pinterest, you can add a Pinterest share button to your Tumblr blog. This button will be shown on top of all of your Tumblr posts and will allow your followers to share them on Pinterest.

Below are the instructions:

1. Log into Tumblr.
2. Click the gear button to get to your blog’s settings.
3. Click the title of your blog on the left sidebar.
4. Click the customize button on the right.
5. Click the edit HTML button on the left sidebar.
6. Make a backup of your theme by copying and pasting all of the code on to a text file and saving on your hard drive. It’s important to make backups in case you make a mistake.
7. Next, search for {block:Posts} in your HTML code and enter the following code directly under the {block:Posts}.

*** Please note that after you paste the code, some extra text is included.  This is due to one of my plugins and I’m not sure how to change that functionality.  So, in order to  make sure the extra text isn’t included, paste the code initially into notepad and then delete the extra code.  The extra code should start with “- See more at:…”.  After you’ve deleted all the extra code, you can then paste the remaining code into your html. ***

<img border="0" src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/PinExt.png" title="Pin It" />
<br />

8. Now, look for the closing body tag “</body>” and enter the following code directly above the closing body tag.

<script type="text/javascript" src="//assets.pinterest.com/js/pinit.js"></script>

9. Finally click the “update preview” button and click the “save” button.

Your new Pin It button should now appear above each of your Tumblr posts and will look like the following.

Customizing your Secondary Tumblr Blog

Customizing your secondary blog in Tumblr is pretty much the same as customizing your primary blog.  The only difference is you have to select your secondary blog in order to get to its settings.  To do this, you’d first go to your dashboard and click the gear button on the top of your screen.  Next, you’re going to see the titles of your primary blog and your secondary blog(s) on the left.  Selecting your secondary blog’s title on the left will take you to your secondary blog’s settings.  After selecting the title, you can click the “customize” button on the right screen and this will take you to the area where you can customize your secondary blog.

How to See Who’s Following an Individual Board on Pinterest

Pinterest allows users to follow other pinners and you have the option to follow all of their pin boards or just a few boards or an individual board.  To see who’s following one or more of your boards, you’d go to your Pinterest page and select a board.  Once the board’s open, you’ll see, on the upper right, the number of followers for that particular board and the number of pins the board has.  If you’d like to see the names of the pinners who are following that board, you can click the number of followers and they will then be displayed.

How to Ban I.P. Addresses from your Tumblr Blog

I recently came across this Tumblr post about banning I.P. addresses from your Tumblr blog. This tutorial can be helpful if you’re getting some not-so-pleasant anons on your Tumblr blog.

Here’s the tutorial and here’s the script you would need to add to “<head>” section of your theme’s HTML.

Just add the I.P. addresses you want to ban and click the “Get the HTML code” on the bottom. Then add that code to your Theme’s “<head>” section.  Be sure to make a backup of your theme’s HTML before making any changes; just copy and paste the code on to a text file and save it to your computer.

If you’re like a lot of people, you’ve probably watched many YouTube videos. Whether these videos were cute animal videos, music videos, tutorials, comedy videos or any other kind of video, your video-watching experience can be enhanced by using some helpful YouTube Keyboard shortcuts. Below, I’ve listed a few you may or may not have heard of.

Skipping to Different Parts of a Video

In order to use the following six keyboard shortcuts, the video needs to be paused first.

Clicking the 1 key – takes you to the 10% mark of the video
Clicking the 3 key – takes you to the 30% mark of the video
Clicking the 5 key – takes you to the 50% mark of the video
Clicking the 7 key – takes you to the 70% mark of the video
Clicking the 9 key – takes you to the 90% mark of the video
Clicking the 0 key – takes you back to the beginning of the video

Other YouTube Keyboard Shortcuts

Clicking the F key – shows the video in full screen
Clicking the Esc key – takes you out of full screen
Clicking the tab key – pauses and unpauses the video
Clicking the left arrow key – moves the video back 3 seconds
Clicking the right arrow key – moves the video forward 3 seconds

I hope you find these YouTube shortcuts helpful. They seem to work well while watching the videos on YouTube as well as watching YouTube videos that are embedded on external sites.

How to Add your own Custom Cursor on Tumblr

Adding a custom cursor to your Tumblr blog is a cool way to add some special customization. You can either search for an image you like on the internet or you can search Tumblr’s custom cursors tag or you can make your own in an image editor like Photoshop, Paint.net or Gimp. Just make sure the image is small enough (around the size of a cursor) and you may also want to make the background of the image transparent.

Once you’ve gotten the image you want, upload it to a free image hosting site like TinyPic. The reason why you have to upload it to an image hosting site is because you’ll need a link for the image in order to add the code to your Theme’s HTML. If you have your own hosted website, you can upload it to your site as well and get a link.  Once you get the URL for your image, paste it into this code between the parentheses:

*, body, a, a:hover {cursor: url(URL for your image), auto;}

Next, go to Tumblr.com, click the gear button on top to access your settings, click your blog’s title on the left, click the customize button on the right and scan down the left sidebar until you get to the box that says “add custom CSS”. See image below.

paste code

Paste the code that’s provided above with your image’s URL into this box

Finally, save your changes and you’ve got your own custom cursor.

If you don’t want to create your own image, you can do a search on the internet for an image you like or check the custom cursor tags on Tumblr as I mentioned above.
